General Information

The Macfeat Early Childhood Laboratory School offers preschool and kindergarten classrooms and after school child care, for children ages three to five. The school is open to the community and operated by the Richard W. Riley College of Education. Staffed by educators with advanced degrees, and graduate and undergraduate students, the lab school stresses growth and development of the whole child; therefore children will develop intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally. Macfeat provides each child with a unique opportunity to explore, create, experiment and socially interact with other children and caring, competent adults.

The school is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), an organization that recognizes outstanding early childhood programs which meet national standards of quality. Macfeat is licensed by the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS).

Macfeat also serves as a research site. Throughout the school year, faculty members, graduate, and undergraduate students from various university departments spend time in Macfeat observing, participating and interacting positively with the children. Through such positive and varied experiences, children develop a sense of trust in the goodness and wonder of the world.
