The Master of Arts in Teaching Accelerated Option

The MAT Accelerated program is a fast-paced option for Winthrop students who began education coursework as an undergraduate. MAT Accelerated students complete courses required for teaching certification in the summer, fall, and spring. The accelerated option requires recent Winthrop graduates to have a minor in Educational Studies and a bachelor's degree in the fields of art, biology, chemistry, dance, English, French, math, social studies, Spanish, or theatre.

Application Deadline: February 15 for summer admission. This program only admits students one time per year, in the summer.

Financial Assistance

Scholarships and Graduate Assistantships are available to fully-admitted graduate students.  In addition, a special grant-funded scholarship and stipend program is available to those pursuing Math or Biology teacher certification. The WISE program (Winthrop Initiative for STEM Educators) will provide $10,000 scholarships and stipends to eligible MAT students who agree to teach in high-need schools upon graduation.
